Tiso Appliance Repair Workers Beat the Heat

Paul and Andrew Tiso prepared to jump in their white truck loaded with equipment tied down in the flatbed with cords. With the arrival of summer comes the nearly universal need and desire for the cooling properties of air conditioners. The Tisos fill that need and have been doing so for several generations.

Tiso Appliance Repair on Wolfs Lane in Pelham sells air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators and other appliances to the community.

Though owner Peter Tiso sells a variety of appliances, air conditioning season provides the biggest boost to his business.

"The summertime carries us through the slow months, definitely," Tiso said.

Paul Tiso, the installer and serviceman, and his cousin Andrew sweated in the heat Thursday afternoon as they loaded appliances onto their truck. The elder Tiso said that the heat does not deter them.

"What options do we have but to deal with it?" Tiso said.

Though the sun punishes them, Tiso said they actually take fewer breaks in the heat because it is the busiest time of the year for them. To compensate, they drink as much water as possible to deal with the high temperatures and equally high humidity.

The Tisos rest more in the colder months when air conditioning is essentially useless.

"Our breaks are over the winter," Tiso said. "There's a lot more standing around."

Tiso Appliance Repair has served the community since the 1950s, when Carmine Tiso founded the store. Today, his nephew Peter runs the shop.
